Hi Katie,
No matter what I do, in the fall and winter my toes are always cold. Like, unbearably cold. So cold that it makes the rest of me cold. Wearing extra socks doesn’t help, neither does drinking something warm. How can I contain my shivering during class and work?
Lauren, 22
Dear Lauren,
This isn’t that unusual of a problem. Lots of people have cold toes (just ask the person they put them on in bed). Since it’s only in the fall and winter, you won’t look like a weirdo if you do a few things to try to keep them from turning into toe-sicles.
Hunters have been using them for years, but most people don’t know they exist. The same people who make those hand warmers that you keep in your gloves or pockets also make toe warmers. They are flat, and stick to your sock. They remain toasty warm for hours, and no one can tell that you are wearing them.
Another thing to try might be some insulated socks. You can usually find them at outdoors stores, usually in the hiking area. They keep your body heat in, and your toes warm.
If you are completely out of options and really can’t keep your toes warm, you need to see a doctor. You might have a circulatory problem or something else that is keeping your toes from staying the same temperature as the rest of your body.
Good luck on your quest for toe warmth. Here are a few sites to look at.
Is it weird to suggest electric socks? My dad has a pair for hunting. They just have batteries in them.
